What it is?

Isolant is an innovative form of insulation based on reflection. Isolant TM Foams Membranes are waterproof and insulate thermally your roof, replacing the combination of asphaltic felt plus a traditional thermal insulator, achieving reduces costs and installation times.

Thermal-acoustic reflective foils solve the insulation problems of construction since with one material only, equipped with thermal, acoustic features and moisture barrier with a minimal thickness, offer a remarkable increase of comfort in buildings, as wells as a suitable liveable surface without overloading the structure due to its lightness.

This form of insulation was initially used by NASA in their space bus back in 1955 and the same technology is still in use today.

How it's installed?

Reflective foils are light and flexible and therefore are easy to install. The insulation of a bent or pitched covering is vital for the thermal balance of the whole structure. The purpose of the Isolant sealant foil is to avoid the passage of the outside temperature inside and vice versa. The Isolant reflective foil is ideal for under-tile insulation due to its ductility, lightness and adjustment to any surface and facility to install. The only tools needed are a knife, aluminium adhesive tape and some fitting material. The Isolant reflective foil is ideal for walls insulation due to its ductility, lightness and adjustment to any surface and facility to install.

Ideal for:

Interior insulation of buildings
Roof and ceiling insulation
Floor insulation
Insulation of industrial stores and factories,
Greenhouses, barns, cow-sheds, poultry, pigsties, bird incubator rooms,
laying and milking rooms, stables, etc...
Garage insulation
Spas & Sauna insulation
Shelter insulation
Sports facility insulation
Insulation of air-conditioned ducts / Ventilation:
- Various types of ducts and piping
- Feeding and distribution lines

And much more...

How does it work?

The heat is transmitted through the air spaces by radiation, convection and conduction. The main purpose is to obtain a reduction of energy costs necessary to artificially warm up and cool down a building. The reflective insulations fulfil this goal by reducing the radiant heat transfer. Radiation or Reflectance: It's the capacity of a material to absorb or reflect the energy that falls upon it. Example: Going out in a sunny day and feel the sun rays in our face, i.e. we feel the sun radiation. Convection: It's called convection the flow of thermal energy that passes through liquids and gases. This flow of energy is created by the physical motion of particles from heat zones to cold zones. Conduction or Conductivity: It's the thermal capacity of a material to transfer energy, i.e. the direct contact. The traditional insulation products, such as glass wool, mineral wool or polystyrene, are effective in reducing heat and cold waste, though they have in general a very low reflective rate because they are absorber materials, therefore, the thicker they are, more capacity have to absorb the heat and cold. Isolant insulations occupy less space than the traditional systems. Currently, there is no EC law on reflective equipments as reflective materials operate differently from the traditional ones, and approved measures on this matter haven't yet been taken. However, Isolant ® equipment has been tested and these tests are available on request. Isolant has been awarded the certificate for its Quality Management System by NP EN ISO 9001:2000 Standard.

When correctly installed, the Isolant ® insulation has a remarkable R value which effectively resist to the radiant heat transfer through thermal conduction. Isolant main feature lies on the fact of this system can operate like an energy-reflective barrier. Waterproof to water vapours.

We propose our technology and our support service, to advise the best use of our products. Our products have the necessary lightweight, reduce space consumption, acoustic and thermal isolation properties that allow builders and engineers to prefer the use of Isolant products in a wide range of building solutions. Example: When we touch a steel pot being warmed on a stove, there is a heat transfer by conduction. Condensation At the time of using any type of insulation system, there might be condensations such as water vapour that changes from gaseous state to liquid state, and are produced due to a thermal choc caused by the environment inside and the environment outside, which may be avoided by proper ventilation between the spaces to seal. Therefore, to ensure an effective performance, though depending of the product to be installed, the installation can be made using a ventilation space (air gap) on one or both sides of the Isolant sheet, according with the case and the product to install. The Infrared Concept

The heat sent out by the sun that is filtered through the Ozone layer is called Infrared. With the increasing destruction of the Ozone layer, the quantity of solar radiation has increased dramatically in the last recent years, and that is why nowadays we have to be more careful with the solar rays. The infrared is also produced by the conversion of various solar radiations such as ultra-violet rays, gamma rays, visible light, etc, that in contact with any surface becomes IR. The IR rays are invisible to the human eye and also haven't enough temperature that can be measured, because is energy, though generates an increase on the temperature of the black bodies when they get in contact with them, phenomenon called the "Black Globe Effect". The black bodies are objects that are darker than the air itself, ex. our skin, white paper, white painted walls, etc.

Characteristics

Mechanical Features

The resistance to stress of the Isolant ® foils vary according with its installation needs, but there are a number of available products to address the major load stresses.

Behaviour to fire

The Isolant foils are made of aluminium; they are able to delay the fire in the eminence of casual sparking. However, the materials are combustible if they are exposed to intense fire due to its plastic component. Isolant foils avoid thermal chocks thanks to its reflectance power.

Damp resistance

Isolant foils are highly resistant to water absorption thanks to its composition, and its non-capillarity, which make Isolant foils being waterproof to water vapour and humidity.

Biologic resistance

Isolant foils are free from being attacked by rodents, insects or other worms since they are exempt of any nutritive value for these parasites thanks to its composition.

Chemical resistance

Isolant foils when in direct contact with substances or materials containing volatile components are exposed to solvent attacks. When choosing products for its adherence particular attention should be taken to the manufacturer's recommendations.

Durability

When correctly applied, the Isolant foils have a useful life equal to the useful life of the building or construction where they are installed. Isolant foils can be re-used, depending how they are installed.

Condensations

At the time of using any type of insulation system, there might be condensations such as water vapour that changes from gaseous state to liquid state, and are produced due to a thermal choc caused by the environment inside and the environment outside, which may be avoided by proper ventilation between the spaces to seal. Therefore, to ensure an effective performance, the installation can be made using a ventilation space (air gap) on both sides of the Isolant sheets.

Emissivity

It's the capacity to absorb the infrared rays while absorbing energy. The lower the remittance is, the greater the reflectance capacity of the material. The Isolant reflective insulation has an emittance rate of 0.03.
