Topox Extruded Polystyrine

Topox Extruded Polystyrine

TOPOX manufactures extruded polystyrene (XPS) for building insulation as well as for many industrial applications. The main strength of the business is simplicity and superior service to the customer, together with an excellent product, manufactured with machinery and processes using the latest technology in Europe.

What is it?

Extruded polystyrene (XPS) from TOPOX provides optimum thermal insulation against cold and heat, which makes it a product that is highly suitable for insulating buildings in all kinds of climatic regions. Buildings insulated with TOPOX are highly energy-efficient as they enable a substantial level of energy-saving while maintaining the maximum level of comfort indoors in any season of the year.

How it is sold?

Types

Extruded polystyrene TOPOX CUBER is the ideal product for the insulation of roofs. In the case of inverted flat roofs the recommended product is TOPOX CUBER SL which is placed on top of the waterproof layer. Apart from being and energy efficient application, the XPS helps to protect the waterproofing membrane from damage and UV degradation. TOPOX CUBER SL has got closed cell structure with a lap joint rebate to facilitate its placement on the roof.

Aplications

Inverted flat roof

The insulation saves energy and simultaneously protects the structure and waterproof sheet. The flat roof is constructed on roof frames within which the insulator is placed on top of the waterproof layer. This ensures that the insulation not only carries out its job of saving energy, but it simultaneously protects the structure and the waterproof layer, thus improving its durability. The product used for this type of roof is TOPOX CUBER SL. Typical flat roofs are: Those that are closed, accessible only for their maintenance or for the maintenance of installations located on them. Those that are open, with paving, for use by people. Roof gardens for use for planting for aesthetic and environmental purposes. The most appropriate finish will consist of a layer of vegetable soil over a drainage layer.

Pitched roof (I)

TOPOX CUBER TR is made with narrow channels enabling cement to be applied for fixing tiles These may be roofs in which the insulation goes directly below the tiles, which themselves are fixed with roof mortarflexim or studded with nails. Where the insulation is to be used with roofs that are finished with mortared tiles, the tiles will be ceramic or concrete and installed on a sloping frame between 16° and 45° depending on the type of tile. The product to be used is the TOPOX CUBER TR, which has small channels enabling the tiles to be correctly laid with mortar. Insulation can be fixed by using poliurethane based adhesive or fixings as on the drawing.

Pitched roof (II)

There is a ventilated chamber of air between the tile and the insulation which avoids condensation and overheating Where insulation is used under roofs that are studded with nails, the tiles are made of slate, ceramic or concrete and are fixed with nails onto a sloping frame that forms the slope of the roof with the corresponding struts. Between the roof tiles and the insulation, a ventilated air chamber avoids condensation forming in the roof tiles and helps to reduce overheating of the roof due to sun's rays. This type of roof also enables the space beneath the roof to be inhabited. The right product in this case is TOPOX CUBER SL. There are other types of sloping roofs where the spacing struts are fitted between the sheets (II)*. In this case, where the insulation material does not support the tile weight, TOPOX CUBER CR is used.

Undrefloor heating

The insulation is a basic element for ensuring that the heat goes in the right direction and is not lost in the part under the frame and the lateral parts. This climate-control system works from the floor of the property itself. Underfloor heating consists in a heating element integrated into the floor that transfers the heat through radiation. Underfloor heating is a very efficient form of heating as it directly warms the person’s body starting at the feet, and at a reduced level of heat than would otherwise be needed to get the same sensation of comfort using other, more traditional systems. The insulator - a basic element for ensuring that the heat goes in the right direction and is not lost in the part under the frame and lateral parts - must be installed between the frame and the heating system piping. The tiles are fixed on top of this using mortar or mounted concrete slabs. The ideal product for this is TOPOX TERRA 300 of between 60 and 80 thickness depending on the situation.

Extruded polystyrene TOPOX MUR is the ideal product for the insulation of walls. TOPOX MUR CW is a long board (2.6m) and has a tongued and grooved profile so that the boards interlock when being placed vertically on the wall.

Profile of Topox mur CW

Aplications

Verical walls and thermal bridges

Insulating frame and pillar fronts avoid heat loss and condensation TOPOX MUR CW is the main product to be used for insulating facades. The insulation is fitted directly onto the outside face of the inner wall. The cavity should be on the exterior side of the insulation. The minimal absorption of water, the high insulating capability and the tongue and groove finish of the product make it ideal for this application. The fronts of the frame and pillars are weak thermal points on a building and the risk of condensation is raised considerably. The ideal product for this use is TOPOX MUR CB. The sheets are cut in bands to the width of the pillar or the edge of the framework, and fitted covering all the exterior faces. The insulation can be fitted directly before concreting over the pillar or frame and acts as a lost formwork. Insulation can be fixed by using poliurethane based adhesive or fixings as on the drawing.
